Flights to Crete
We began our trip by flying from Berlin (BER) to Heraklion (HER) with a connection in Munich (MUC). Both legs of the flight were with Lufthansa in Economy Class, and the smooth connections made for a stress-free experience. On the way back, we flew from Heraklion to Zurich (ZRH) with Swiss (operated by Edelweiss) and then from Zurich to Berlin. While the journey was mostly uneventful, there was a hiccup—my suitcase wasn’t loaded onto the Zurich-to-Berlin flight. Fortunately, my Apple AirTag alerted me to this issue before takeoff, though it still took two hours for the suitcase to arrive in Berlin after I landed.
Renting a Car in Crete
Once we landed in Heraklion, we picked up our rental car, which we had booked through the American Express travel portal to make use of our Amex Platinum travel budget. The total cost for the week with Avis was 425 EUR, but with the 200 EUR credit, we effectively paid just 225 EUR. Renting a car was one of the best decisions we made, as it gave us the freedom to explore Crete’s stunning beaches, charming towns, and historical sites at our own pace.
